Q5D is a UK based startup developing disruptive automation hardware and software automating wire harness manufacturing a process that has remained 90% manual. Wiring is everywhere from cars to power tools, and the electrification of transport and other sectors is creating a rapidly growing need that there just aren’t enough people to meet.

Our technology saves cost, delivers better products that can pack more functions into less space and eliminates the need to rely on long supply chains, and creates products that can pack more functions into less space and deliver all the benefits of cost reduction, quality and consistency that is expected of automation. Working with the MTC we have been able to show how our tech could be integrated into fully automated factories.
The MTC have a broad and deep knowledge of robotics, emerging technologies and the needs of the users of manufacturing machinery and automated systems. Their members represent the leading technology companies in the UK and globally so, not only are the MTC informed of the challenges and needs of manufacturing now and in the future, they also provide an ideal network to disseminate Q5D capabilities to exactly the right people to utilise this technology.

A project funded in part by Innovate UK – Made Smarter Innovation: Industry ready Robotics and Automation enabled Q5D, The MTC and Emixa to collaborate to integrate software and hardware into an automation cell for manufacturing with the Q5D robot being supplied by an MTC co-acting robot demonstrating full automation.

Q5D was excited to be able to work with MTC and showcase the technology at MTC’s world leading facilities. The cell created custom wire looms and programmed using Siemens CAD/CAM customised by Emixa.
Throughout the project the MTC’s expert teams helped us to shape the industrial function, safety and secure operation of our product.

Emixa provide a wide range of Siemens digital solutions but specialise in manufacturing. Q5D have partnered with Emixa in several projects to take our unique multi-axis machinery from a proof of concept all the way to a range of state-of-the-art automation platforms. Working with the Emixa team accelerated our development and enables us to deliver on high value opportunities using the customisations they have provided to our Siemens NX packages. A huge thanks to the team at Emixa who have shown have exceptional generosity in applying their skill and knowledge of manufacturing and the Siemens ecosystem to our very different needs.
