Bristol, 10th October 2023 – Q5D has developed a robot to automate the addition of wiring and printed electronics to products, eliminating the need for wire harnesses. The company’s work has now been recognised by Electronics Weekly’s Elektra Awards judges, where the company has been selected as a ‘Start-up of the Year’ finalist.

The wiring in many electrical and electronic products is currently made and installed by hand. Over the last few years, Q5D, has developed a unique additive manufacturing process that automates the wiring integration of both bare and insulated conductors. This significantly improves manufacturing productivity, reduces costs, and improves the quality and functionality of products ranging from cars to power tools. It also facilitates onshoring of manufacturing, reducing supply chain cost, complexity, and risk.

Simon Baggot, Q5D’s CMO, said: “The Q5D team’s hard work culminated in the launch of our first robot cell for wiring automation in April this year. The positive reactions from prospective customers have far exceeded our expectations and it’s great to see both our product and the innovative, collaborative culture of the business being recognised by the Elektra Awards judges.”

The Elektra Awards event takes place at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London, on 29th November 2023, when the winners will be announced.
